Knowledge of component factors and environmental conditions are important factors in designing structures. Ports and Marine Structures, Considering their special status are not exempt from this. Considering these factors makes the usage of proper methods and real analysis and design possible and makes these structures possess acceptable stability against loads and environmental conditions.

Results of studies in this section include:

The Current Plan of the Astara Seaport

1- wind and wave surveys; surveyor's level

Study of wind and waves is one of the most important hydrodynamic parameters. The main reason for determining the wind profile is because of creating waves. Determining the type of waves by using the wind profile is a common way to access the wave profile; which is the most important factor in the port specification. Wind profile can be a direct parameter of the structure designs within the port. Wind profile is a very important factor in the projects. This requires appropriate reviews and using data from various sources of wind.

• Reviewing data from various sources of wind in project

Wind measurement in meteorology stations and comparing different wind roses.

Reviewing wave data banks in the range of project

Correction of ISWM studies using regional wind and available hydrographic data

• Selecting basic wave and basic wave rose data around the port and near the mouth

• Determining specifications of designed wave around the port and near the mouth

• Determining the storm surge

• Determining the uplift caused by wave

2- Wave penetration studies in to the port

• Reviewing wave rose of region and specificating all the waves which can affect the peace of port

• Reviewing silence of port reffered to existing regulations

• Designing and implementation of mathematical models for waves in different directions into the port
• Setting restive regions within the basin and calculating occurrence frequency

3- Modeling the Tide processes within the project (sediment modeling prerequisite)

The simulation results for wave scattering and penetration directions 5/112

4- Sediment transport studies

Sediment transport characteristics within the project, along the wave profile, plays the most important role in determining the layout of Port and its facilities as well as the usage of different parts of that and eventually results in Port life and dredging period.

By considering the rate and mechanism of sediment transport within the port, the decision about dredging and facilities' layout can be made (along the wave profile).

In this section, such characteristics have been studied.

• Studying sediment sources

• Reviewing the process of sediment transport within the project by using hydrographic data and images.

• Estimating the sediment potential and the transportation way to the shore

• Predicting Long-term changes of the coastline
